WATER PLANT OPERATOR TRAINEE

 

 

Objective:

 

To help the selected Trainee obtain his/her State of Florida “C” Water Plant Operator’s License. To this end, GPIWA will provide the necessary training materials and licensed water plant personnel will train, tutor, and mentor as needed to help the Trainee reach their goal.

 

However, the responsibility will remain with the Trainee to obtain a “C” State of Florida Water Plant Operator’s License within two-years from the date of hire to continue working for the Association.

 

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

A.        Responsible to: Chief Plant Operator

 

            Hours: 40 Hour Work Week Includes Working Within a

                       16 Hour/Day 7-Day/Week Variable Operating Shift Schedule

                        Taking On Call Required

 

            Pay: $15.20 - $23.10 per hour; Based on Experience and Qualifications

 

 

B. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

 

Works under the direction of a State Licensed Operator.

 

Performs tasks relating to operating a water treatment plant, i.e.

Takes system readings

Performs chemical analysis

Makes equipment quality control adjustments based on analysis

Operates mechanical, electrical and chemical systems

                      Daily building housekeeping

                      Maintains grounds as required

 

C . Required Skills

Ability to acquire knowledge of water plant systems and equipment

           Ability to learn and perform required laboratory tests

Ability to learn to troubleshoot computer, mechanical and electrical problems during periods of plant upset or mechanical failure

 

D. Essential Physical Skills

 Moderate to heavy (up to 50 pounds) lifting and carrying

            Color sited

            Hearing or hearing corrected

 Ability to sit for prolonged periods

 Walking

            Standing For prolonged periods

            Stooping

            Driving

            Equipment operation

            Bending

            Kneeling

            Climbing on ladders – ascending to heights or depths of up to 30’

            Arduous pushing & pulling          

           

E. Environmental

           Works in-doors often in noisy conditions

Works out-of-doors in various weather conditions: cold, wind, rain, heat, humidity, in dust, dirt, pollen, etc.

           

G. Education/License Required

Minimum high school graduate diploma or GED certificate

           Valid Florida Drivers License

 

Miscellaneous

 

Extra considerations given for:

 

Working knowledge of the sciences, mathematics and/or computers

Mechanical aptitude

Electrical aptitude

Knowledge of instrumentation

Knowledge of PLC’s

Knowledge of plumbing, pipe and fittings

Previous experience working in water or wastewater utilities

Living on or in close proximity to Pine Island, or the willingness to relocate    

within six months
